RouterPassView is a wonderful password recovery freeware from NirSoft to help user recover network router password, ISP connection username password, wireless network keys configuration settings from router configuration file.
RouterPassView is a Portable Router Password Recovery Tool created by NirSoft. It works by attempting to find your Login Password and or Wireless Keys from your backup router configuration file. Note that you must have a backup configuration file for RouterPassView to read, and not every router configuration file is supported, however I have found that most of the popular older Routers are.
How RouterPassView recovers router password information?
Once you load the configuration file into the program, it displays your (supported) router’s passwords, wireless keys, and login information. It can also decrypt ISP usernames and passwords. It could be really handy if, say, you’re troubleshooting a less tech-savvy friend’s router or if you happened to lose that information yourself.
As most of network router has an option to backup the configuration of the router, which contain the login password of the router, the ISP username and password and wireless access configuration settings into a file. By using Router pass view, it can extract the router backup configuration files and automatically discover and display the login information if the router is supported.
To view network router configuration files setting is simple, all you need is open your router configuration file by using ‘Open Router Config File’ option (Ctrl+O) or by dragging the config file from Explorer into the main window of RouterPassView.
If RouterPassView manage to detect and decrypt your router file, you should get a list of passwords/wireless keys in the main window of RouterPassView. If RouterPassView cannot detect your file, it’ll remain empty. Plus more, all the router password information that retrieved by RouterPassView can be saved and export to HTML reports.
However, RouterPassview application supports a limited number of routers (as below) with the promise to add additional routers in the future.
